"Lunch at Rules is as much about the experience and décor as it is about the food. Plus some interesting history. Edward VII, then still the Prince of Wales, was well known for having his own private dining room there, which he used to discreetly romance the actress Lily Langtry.

Started with a rich fish soup, then tackled the rib of beef for two—previously recommended by my mother, a regular who probably fits the general demographic of the punters better than I do.

Spent the next few hours wandering central London, trying (and failing) to walk it off. A true classic."
